Melinda Dumitrescu and her Little Stars of Jesus and Mary

Melinda Dumitrescu was born in Romania to a family of musicians. Her father put a violin in her hands at an early age and at the same time, her mother directed her towards love for her Catholic faith.

As a gifted violinist, Melinda started playing in Concerts at nine years of age. She was a soloist accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra of her city Brasov, Transylvania, Romania.

Melinda received numerous awards in Romania and abroad, particularly in 1990 when she won the Gold Cup (Coppa d’Oro) at the age of 14 in Stresa, Italy. She was invited to play all over Europe and at the age of 16, whilst playing in Japan, she realised that the Lord had plans for her and the musical talent that He had given to her.

Melinda felt that her violin playing would take a deeper meaning, far beyond applause and success. She continued to study and shine in her solo career as she searched for the thread of her life. In 1996, Melinda found herself in Medjugorje where she gradually discovered her mission and vocation, through prayer.

When she graduated, at the age of 24, Melinda gave up a career and potential earnings of €500 per minute. To this day, Melinda remains in the service of the parish of Medjugorje, animating with her violin and singing, the Liturgy, the Youth Festival, various prayer services and cultural events.

Melinda has devoted her life and her God-given gift to Our Lady and Our Blessed Lord.

In 2013, Melinda embraced a new project which is called Little Stars of Jesus and Mary (Le Piccole Stelle di Gesu e di Maria). The project involves gifted young musicians and artists who aim to evangelise through the beauty of music and art. This is achieved through prayer, the sacraments and a commitment to chastity.

The Little Stars animate prayer meetings all over the world and offer concerts of evangelisation combining classical and sacred music, dance and drama. They have performed in various countries including Italy, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Germany, Austria, Romania and South Korea.

St Joseph & The Helpers Charity directors have been inviting Melinda and her Little Stars of Jesus and Mary to Ireland for the past two years. Early in 2015, she agreed to make her first visit to Ireland for some concerts and Adorations in February, 2016. In an amazing coincidence, she was then invited to perform at the Divine Mercy Conference.
The itinerary for Melinda’s trip was:

The weekend in Longford was meticulously planned by Margaret McEntee, charity director, and her committee which included Fr Tom Murray from the Cathedral. All three elements of the weekend of Spiritual and Sacred Music attracted huge crowds. Apart from Fr Svet’s long journey from Zagreb, three lovely ladies from Cornwall in the UK took two plane journeys and a bus to Longford to hear Melinda’s violin again.

Monday, 15th Feb: The Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar:
Mass & Adoration at 7.30 p m. Fr Svet led the Adoration while Melinda and her artists provided the beautiful music.

Tuesday, 16th Feb: Castlecourt Hotel, Westport:

Monday, 22nd Feb: The Church of the Holy Family, Kill of the Grange, Dublin:
Mass & Adoration 3.30 p m with Fr John Killeen, PP and music by Melinda, Cristian and Roland.

Tuesday, 23rd Feb: St Peter & St Paul’s Church, Portlaoise:

The Concert Tour was wonderful for Melinda and the young artists. It was particularly wonderful for all who had the good fortune to be in the congregations or audiences.
